DiSC Personality Assessment

DiSC is a very popular program for:

  • corporate training
  • employee development
  • organization effectiveness,
  • other human resources or training and development applications.

This is because DiSC offers a language for individuals to discuss their behavioral styles and differences. The DiSC personality assessment teaches people ways to modify their natural approach to build more constructive, effective workplace relationships.

Dr. William Marston invented the DiSC personality model in his 1928 book, The Emotions of Normal People. Several decades later, his work was followed by Dr. John Geier, who created a DiSC personality assessment as a tool for applying DiSC theory to everyday life. John Wiley & Sons (formerly Inscape) now owns the DiSC assessment, which they publish in several flavors, along with other DiSC-based training materials and reports.

But what is the DiSC personality assessment? It draws upon four behavioral dimensions: Dominance, influencing, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness. Many people have composite styles of two dimensions, a primary and a secondary, such as Di or SC (or iD or CS, which is a subtle but important distinction).
